Cedar Point Boatyard: V2G-enabled storage slips in Annapolis, Maryland

Scale

310 storage positions

Service

Three-phase, upgraded 1200A service

V2G enabled

72 bidirectional storage bays

The starting point

  • Stored electric vessels needed maintenance charging all winter with no way to bill it accurately.
  • The yard had spare three-phase capacity but no revenue path for it in the off-season.
  • Nor'easter outages repeatedly knocked out the travel lift and yard lighting.

The build

  1. Phase 1

    Service audit

GridLinq mapped every storage row against the existing three-phase distribution to find the 72 bays worth electrifying first.

  2. Phase 2

    Bidirectional bays

Storage bays received bidirectional connections with per-vessel state-of-charge floors so owners always return to a full pack.

  3. Phase 3

    Frequency response

Aggregated packs were enrolled in a fast frequency-response product that pays for availability, not just discharge.

  4. Phase 4

    Islanding

The travel lift, yard lighting and service shop were placed on an islandable circuit backed by stored vessel capacity.
